Throwback Thursday: Star Trek Edition

This throwback sends us all the way back to September of 2012. I had just finished working my way through Star Trek: Voyager, and some of my friends and I decided to celebrate with an evening full of some of our favorite episodes! Have I mentioned how super cool I am, yet?

To mark the occasion (and also to provide some sort of decorated dessert in celebration of a friend's birthday), I made Star Trek Communicator cupcakes!

Red for Command - Yellow for Engineering - Green for Science/Medical
This was before I was trying to bake professionally, so they're kind of messy, but I think they turned out pretty well.

Also, this is not the first time I've bragged about these cupcakes online. They were originally posted on my once-up-and-coming-but-now-mostly-abandoned craft blog, What the Craft is Going On?

Throwback Thursday: Cupcake Edition

I am absolutely obsessed with popcorn. I mean, not to the extent where I've researched the history of popcorn or am adventurous in the kind of popcorn I eat in any way... I'm only obsessed with the popcorn to the extent that I eat a lot of it. Microwave popcorn, stove top popcorn, the kind that comes in tubs... I'm all for it. My love of popcorn was the main reason I worked at a movie theater in high school (sometimes they'd even let me take home clean trash bags full of leftover popcorn at the end of the night). It's also why I bought a stove-top cooker a few years ago (although, I can't figure out how to make it buttery enough for my taste). On more than one occasion, I've actually gone into the movie theater near my house, bought popcorn, and left. I have no regrets.

Anyway, in my 26 years of life, I've only met one person that loves popcorn as much as I do. So, doing what I do, I made her these for her birthday a few month ago!

Each popcorn bucket had tissue paper in the bottom (because I didn't want to actually stack the cupcakes), and four mini-cupcakes covered with mini-marshmallows that were dusted, cut, and glued to look like popcorn. I mean, dusted with edible yellow coloring and glued with icing. I don't want anyone thinking that I'm making inedible cupcakes.

Toy blocks that are technically not Legos

This week, one of my friend/coworker's son turned four years old. To celebrate, she decided to host a Lego-themed birthday party for him!

In an attempt to make cupcakes in line with the theme, I got some candy molds for "block men" and "toy blocks," because they can't technically use the term "Lego" due to copyright stuff, I guess.

Someday, I'll actually take better pictures of my cupcakes... I've even had one of my photographer friends offer to help me out... but of course, that would require me actually making the cupcakes enough in advance that I'm not rushing at the last minute. Ah well, in due time, right?

I think they turned out pretty well, and the birthday boy seemed to like them!

Also, good news, everyone! I still have the "block" molds and the melting candy wafers, so if anyone would like to order Lego-themed cupcakes, I'd be more than happy to oblige! Just e-mail me at schmupcakes@gmail.com
